Two Local Beaches Named Among Very Best in Portugal

Golden Beaches to Explore and Enjoy
In addition to the excellent facilities at the Dona Filipa Hotel, like the heated swimming pool, a spa & wellness centre, and even the Kangaroo Club to keep the kids happy, the hotel has two major benefits: A great oceanfront location and amazing views.
Situated just off the lazy blue waters of the Gulf of Cadiz meets the enormous Atlantic Ocean, with stretches of golden sand lining the water, this part of the world just begs you to explore it, and during the glorious weather of the spring and summer months, it’s the beaches that you’ll likely find yourself exploring first. One of these picturesque beaches, both a matter of miles from Dona Filipa, have been named as two of the best beaches in Portugal by The Guardian, and another beach has been named among the top 25 beaches in Europe by TripAdvisor.
Found roughly 30 minutes’ drive from Dona Filipa, Praia da Oura is nestled just to the east of Albufeira, and has been recommended by the Guardian as one of Portugal’s best beaches. The beach would be perfectly at home on a postcard, with its soft, golden sand, crystal blue waters, and curving bay, giving you an excellent view along the Algarve coastline. The cliffs behind the beach are dotted with lush greenery, providing the finishing touch to what is a magnificent beach.
Chosen by Real Visitors
Praia de Falesia has been granted a Travellers’ Choice Award for 2014 by TripAdvisor, for being one of the 25 best beaches in the whole of Europe. With its name roughly translating as ‘Boulder Beach’ it is named for the distinctive orange/red cliffs that surround its golden sand. The beach is found between Albufeira and Vilamoura and stretches for miles. Head towards the Vilamoura end of this picturesque beach and you’ll find the crowds start to thin, making for a much more relaxing and tranquil experience.
Dona Filipa’s local beach, Praia do Trofal, is also certainly not to be sniffed at. If you head straight towards the ocean from the hotel, you’ll find yourself on the pale sand of this lengthy beach. Walk the full length of the beach (a few miles in total), and you’ll eventually arrive at the coastal town of Quarteira. The edge of the beach is occasionally interrupted by vivid green lawns and trees, as the local golf courses find their way to the shore, then double back inland again.
Whether you plan on spending your holiday in the Algarve lying on one of its many golden beaches, or you’ve got a more energetic break planned, perhaps making the most of the water sports on offer in the region, the Dona Filipa Hotel can provide the perfect home from home. The five-star rooms are decorated in classic Portuguese styling, but with luxurious touches, and the three restaurants in the hotel offer some of the finest culinary delights in all of the Algarve.
